• Who would be the audience for your media product?
• How did you attract/ address your audience?
• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
• Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Evaluations - questions 1 and 2
Evaluation Questions
Make either a powerpoint presentation or a prezi to answer the questions
1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?Return to your research –look at least two of the magazines you used when looking at forms and conventions.
a) Download images from these to your blog / prezi
You will be using these images to write about how typical or not your particular design is, so choose them carefully.
b) Download your finished product and compare with the ‘real’ media text.
Then write an analysis of how you have used conventions.
The aspects you might consider are:
The title and how it is displayed
Main image on front page
Setting/location used in DPS
Costumes and props
Camerawork and manipulation of images
Title/caption font and style on contents page
Genre and how it is suggested
How characters / performers are portrayed
Special effects in the design
2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Pick a key character / performer from your product. Select a reasonable sized image of them. Think of one or more celebrity from other magazines with some similarity to them (but maybe some differences too!), find an image on the web of that character and download it as well. Drop the two into photoshop, as a split screen. Export this splitscreen image as a jpeg then drop onto your powerpoint /prezi and write about the similarities and differences in terms of appearance, costume, function in the magazine and appeal to audience.

Deadline News!!!!
The deadline for your portfolio piece is Wednesday 31st March. This may sound like ages away but it isn't.
A deadline is just that - a DEAD LINE - if you don't meet it you are dead!
There is so much to do. don't be lulled into a false sense of security. You need to keep working every lesson and in your 'free' periods and at home.
There will always be problems - frozen computers, trips to New York, cats dying but this doesn't mean extensions. The deadline is the same for all students, no exceptions. We have the evaluations to complete after this and that is a complex task requiring application.
Get thinking and planning.

What you have to do by Monday 8th March
You have already analysed the covers of two weekly music magazines.
We have moved on to look at the specific ways in which monthly magazines target their audiences. We are examining how genre might affect style and looking at stereotypical conventions used in the construction of the magazine.
You should post:
An analysis of the cover of a monthly magazine (images on shared area)
A 100 word audience profile connected to a specific magazine
The answers to the questions on the handout - 'Inside the magazine'
I would recommend you use three different monthly magazines for these tasks (good overview).

DISAPPOINTMENT
I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am with some of you! How can you consider Media as an A Level choice when you don't meet deadlines and complete the work in hand? I'm lost for words.

Preliminary Task
I want to see how well you work independently. You have until next Wednesday (10th) to complete your preliminary task. This is the cover and contents page of a school/college magazine (St Mark's).
The key is planning - don't just take snaps. Your images need to be linked to your cover lines and these in turn need to be selected for your target audience. (could be 6th form, Y11, whole school) all need to be carefully planned.
Remember to set up your shots - selecting mise en scene and framing the shot. You must include a medium close up of a student but the others are your choice.
think carefully about contents page. They can be bland if you don't plan.
You also need to complete all class and homework before the deadline.

ST MARK'S PROSPECTUS
Friday 29th January.
Look at the prospectus cover.
Find the image on the shared area and copy it to your blog.
Using the tools available annotate the image.
What messages about the 6th form are being promoted?
How do you reach your conclusions? (Link the images to the aspects of St Mark's you feel are being promoted).
